The moving of the Santa Caterina Hospital will free the complex of architectures that have roomed it from 19th century. The project proposes to refurbish part and enlarge them in order to put together several departments of the Catalan Government which are now spread in different offices in the city of Girona.
The basic criteria applied to the historic buildings is to preserve the 17th and 18th pieces and part of the 19th, understanding the building more as a living being than as an archaeological complex. Thus, the implantation of new pieces strategy seeks to naturally complete the old structure with glass prisms that give them the sense of an institutional building.
The old buildings room representative and public functions around the entrance court, while the four prisms, as glass fingers, create a series of open spaces that bring light and air and improve the city with new green areas.
