description
Three large volumes and a small permanent control centre set amidst large expanses of rail track provided the starting point for the Operative Centre for the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government´s rail network, in Rubí; the workshops and part of the administrative offices have been concentrated here, removing them from the congestion of the central metropolitan nucleus. This is an intervention on what might be described as the grand scale –the main shed occupies a larger surface area than an entire city block of Barcelona´s Cerdà Eixample- close to the urban centre of Rubí and the B-30 motorway.
The workshop bay, measuring 90 x 130 m, is divided into three main spans, given that the need to install three main spans, given that the need to install three bridge cranes made a single span impractical. This steel-built workshop bay is surrounded by a two-storey structure of precast concrete –two different techniques, embodying the possibility of dividing competencies, time-scales and tasks-.
